The Book of Five Rings

The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi

This was an interesting one. I will admit that I enjoyed the history and life story of the author more than what he had to say. This stems more from the fact that I like reading the histories of interesting people more than I care to learn to be a great fighter.

The book is about being a better fighter and how to never lose a battle. The author Musashi was born in 1584 so his life was very much that of a fighter in those days. Not like fighters we have today who don't need those types of fighting skills to survive in battles or on the road traveling from one village to the next looking for the strongest fighter to beat. He also didn't have the distractions of technology and modern anything that we have now to do something else with his life.

This is a great book for someone who likes the idea of being a better warrior. I found the book interesting, but sort of boring. Only because it wasn't what I was expecting. It is a great insight into what life was like for people all those many years ago.
